Supporting the Michael Lewis Foundation

20 Nov,2023

On Monday, November 20th, a team of dedicated individuals from Tactical Solutions – Will Parry, Tim Lewis, Jason Pennicott, and Gavin Croft – along with Greg Fenner from Unilever, will be combining work and charity in a unique event. This “Working and Walking” initiative is a charity fundraiser aimed at supporting the Michael Lewis Foundation, a cause close to their hearts. This foundation, established in memory of Michael Lewis, seeks to make a positive impact on the lives of those battling the condition.

The Michael Lewis Foundation is a testament to the enduring spirit of Michael Lewis, who tragically lost his life at the age of 20 due to a rare complication related to his type 1 diabetes. Michael’s optimism and resilience in the face of adversity inspired his friends to establish the foundation. Their goal is to raise awareness and provide support for individuals confronting the challenges of type 1 diabetes.

As the team undertakes this charity event, they recognize that November holds a dual significance. Not only does it mark the 8th anniversary of Michael’s passing, but it is also supports “World Diabetes Day” which is celebrated on the 14th of November. This dedicated day aims to educate and raise awareness about diabetes, urging individuals to take proactive steps to prevent health issues associated with the condition.

This year’s World Diabetes Day focused on “Access to Diabetes Care”. Globally, many lack the necessary access to essential care, hindering their ability to manage this condition effectively. These individuals depend on continuous care and support to mitigate potential complications. Therefore, it is crucial that we educate ourselves about the primary risks and understand the appropriate responses to ensure a proactive approach.

To amplify their contribution to the cause, the team has set an ambitious goal. While walking, they aim to complete 11 phone calls, covering an impressive total distance of approximately 18 miles. This challenge symbolizes their commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by diabetes.

Customer Business Development Manager, Will Parry who is taking part in the fundraiser, reflects on why this is such an important cause: “I’m taking part in the fundraiser to support one of our colleagues who son tragically passed away. I have had the privilege of working with Tim for the last year and during that time we have talked extensively about Michael, almost to the point that I felt that I knew him. Tim is an excellent person who already contributes so much to the Michael Lewis foundation that I also wanted to show my support outside of a typical working relationship.

Diabetes effects people all around the globe. It affects friends, family and people we see in our day to day lives. By doing this walk, the aim is to increase the awareness of diabetes. Any contributions are very welcomed and can go a long way with supporting people living with diabetes.”

Greg Fenner, Field Sales Ops Lead from Unilever, is supporting the Tactical Solutions team and is also taking part in the fundraiser. He stated:

When Will bought the Charity Walking Working day to my attention with Tim and the Michael Lewis Foundation, he heads up in memory of his son. I was personally touched with how much strength Tim and his family must have to have faced such an horrific time in their own personal life with losing their son Michael to this terrible illness. However, in Michael’s memory working tirelessly to raise funds in the hope of finding a cure or support for other people and families to stop them going through such an horrendous time.

The challenge itself is one that I am looking forward to and as such hoping to raise the target value of ÂŁ1000 to help support the Michael Lewis Foundation in their quest to support Diabetes”.
